How can we communicate the opportunities and possible uses of artificial intelligence (AI) to companies? How do we show how work with AI can be shaped? This is what the WIRKsam competence centre addressed on 20 and 21 September 2022. 60 participants discussed these and other topics at the WIRKsam project meeting on the EURONOVA campus in Hürth. The research partners and companies involved in the project presented initial work and project results to the project sponsor and value partners and received valuable feedback for further project work.

In the workshops, the participants dealt with questions that went beyond the individual use cases:

  • What points of connection and common ground are there in the use cases of the participating companies?
  • How far has participation in WIRKsam reached the employees in the company?
  • What can be done to increase knowledge and motivation for WIRKsam?
  • What should an interesting demonstrator look like?

As a result of the discussions it could be stated that the participation of the employees in the project is very high. There are many points of contact in the use cases, especially in the technical area, where it becomes apparent that further technical preparations must be made for the use of AI in order to provide the necessary data.

Together with research and corporate partners, the WIRKsam competence centre is developing how to design work with AI. The three research partners ifaa - Institut für angewandte Arbeitswissenschaft e.V., ITA Institut für Textiltechnik of RWTH Aachen and MASCOR - Mobile Autonomous Systems and Cognitive Robotics of FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences are conducting joint research in their individual focus areas under the leadership of ifaa. Nine regional companies are part of the team as application partners, three IT companies implement the technologies in these companies. 12 value partners advise the centre of excellence with their expertise during implementation.
