On June 27th, the kick off of the ZIM network textile building took place in the Digital Capability Center in Aachen. Driven by the key themes of lightweight construction, sustainability and functionalization, technical fibers offer great implementation potential for the construction industry. After the first two successful workshops of the ABE Innovation Network Textile building and the positive feedback in cooperation with ZENIT GmbH (Centre for Innovation and Technology in NRW), the ZIM Cooperation Network was established as a funded ZIM Cooperation Network.

Peter Loef of the Zenit AG pointed out the advantages of the ZIM cooperation network for companies: The funding pillar ZIM Cooperation Networks combines the promotion of network management and services with the development projects of the network. The management services of the network management institution are promoted. The project-executing agency grants the funding for the required shares provided by the SME partners. There is no restriction to certain fields of technology and industries. A cooperation network refers to the association of at least six SMEs and research and development institutions with the aim of jointly developing innovative products, processes or services and to develop utilization concepts. The goal is synergetic cooperation in one or more fields of technology, from research and development to the marketing of R&D results.

Thomas Habscheid-Führer, managing partner of Carpus+Partner AG, presented how ideas can be turned into new products for innovative construction. Further practical reports from the fields of lightweight and membrane construction, lectures by ITA, ibac and TFI and a discussion and general brainstorming rounded off the event.
