FAQ
When should I start planning my stay at RWTH Aachen University?
Depending on application deadlines (e.g. ERASMUS) and if not otherwise stated in the resp. exchange agreement between your home university and RWTH/ITA, 6 months prior to your intended start is sufficient.
Please send your complete application (motivation letter, CV, transcript of records, references) in 1 pdf-file (< 1 MB) to Dieter Veit.
Are exams that I take at RWTH Aachen recognized by my home university?
This depends on the regulations at your home university. Please inquire there.
I do not speak German, only my home language (and English). Is that a problem?
If you want to follow lectures, it is a problem as all lectures and exams are in German only. In the exams, you are allowed to use a dictionary.
If you would like to pursue a reseach project, you can communicate with our staff in English and also hand in your report in English.
By the exam date, I will already be back at my home university. What am I to do?
Please ask your home university whether they are willing to have you sit the exam there at the same date and time. We will then send the exam questions as a pdf-file to your home university.
I do not study textile engineering or a related subject but something else. Can I apply nevertheless?
Yes. We do have wide range of research topics and also a large number of non-textile students. If you would like to study, you can do this within existing agreements and the final decision upon your admittance is based on the recommendation given by your home university.
Will you help me in finding a suitable accommodation in Aachen?
Yes. Please contact our study advisor. He will then forward your request and you will be contacted directly.
When offered a suitable accommodation, you should not hesitate and grab it instead of waiting for something better. Finding an accommodation in Aachen is not easy so the number of vacancies is limited.
Are there any scholarships available?
We do not provide any kind of scholarships. But many incoming students receive a grant from the DAAD.
